BRAHMS Violin Sonata No 3 in D minor
BRAHMS Horn Trio in E-flat
Dating from the second half of the 1880s, Brahms’ third and final violin sonata is both grand and concentrated, capturing a whole world of emotions within its concise four-movement structure. The Horn Trio, which dates from Brahms’ early maturity, veers between the virtuosic and elegiac. Brahms certainly doesn’t shy away from pushing the French horn player to the limits and, in both works, the piano part is nothing short of colossal.
